APOD 1.4
My APOD 1.4 is titled "Moon, Venus, and Planet Earth", it was posted yesterday on the official APOD website. This photo was taken in Uruguay, and I found it interesting that it was in the southern hemisphere, so I'm viewing the Moon and Venus here from a different perspective than I do at home. The star directly under the crescent moon is Venus, emerging from a lunar occultation, which means it is emerging from just appearing to be covered by the moon. The star to the lower left of Venus is Spica, a bright bluish star that is part of the constellation Virgo. This photo caught my eye immediately because of the beautiful colors and the bright exposure of the moon, and when I read the title, I realized it was a photo of the very same celestial bodies that I had been studying myself this past month. Seeing it from a different perspective, with this colorful landscape, was an interesting comaprison to viewing it in a completely black sky outside of my house.
