Stargazing: Observation for the week of 9/22-9/28
Almost this entire week was unfortunately rainy, but luckily on Friday night it was clear enough to observe. I couldn't see the moon, as it hadn't risen yet, but I saw Venus very clearly because it was really bright. I noted the difference in the position of the sky since past weeks--it used to be right over a house near the southwest from my driveway at about 9 pm, but now it was more in the east. I was able to see some of the constellations we've learned so far, but some were blocked in the clouds. I noticed a constellation that we hadn't learned yet, and identified it as Cassiopeia through my StarWalk app. On Saturday, I went to the stargazing that Mr. Percival held at Pine View, and was able to verify with him that that constellation was in fact Cassiopeia. We looked at Saturn and a few M objects through a telescope, which I always find fascinating. :D I also love looking at the sky through the binoculars he lends us at stargazing sessions, and finding the Coathanger cluster was something super cool that I had never seen before.
