This picture, titled "Night on a Spooky Planet", was posted on Halloween, hence the title. It shows the volcanic landscape of northeastern Ireland, in Hverir, and the gorgeous auroral display in the stormy sky behind it. Eerie towers of steam rise from the fumaroles in the ground of the geothermally active landscape. The green and purple colors streaming across the sky are beautiful, yet slightly spooky given the occasion. A very fitting APOD for the holiday yesterday. :)
