This week's APOD is titled "The Jets of NGC 1097" and shows the spiral galaxy of NGC 1097. It is a staggering 45 million light years away, in the chemical constellation Fornax. The deep exposure of this photograph reveals what appear to be four faint jets, extending outward in an X shape centered at the galaxy's nucleus. A possible explanation for these jets lists them as fossil star streams. This galaxy also features a supermassive black hole.
