Observation 3.1
After the unfortunate cancellation of the last two stargazing sessions, last Saturday night we finally had some clear skies over Pine View. With the aid of our trusty instructor Mr. Percival, we identified the constellations and major stars in the winter sky, such as Orion and the stars within, Canis Major and its bright star Sirius, the characters in our "celestial soap opera", and basically all of the visible constellations above. We got to see Jupiter through a telescope, which was extremely interesting, and its Galilean moons. Altogether a beautiful astronomical sight-- we are so lucky to be able to use equipment to see these objects. We were also able to view several M objects through the telescope, along with an abundance of star clusters through binoculars. Before this stargazing, the winter sky had still felt unfamiliar to me, but now I can recognize and identify its features almost as well as the summer sky, which I am happy about. :) More observation and practice is definitely in store for me in the future.
