Emma and I put cinnamon rolls in the oven and headed outside with our camera and tripod around 2:45. I had expected it to be slightly cloudy, but it was actually a beautiful night, very clear and about fourth or fifth magnitude visibility. The Moon was about half orange, half white when we first got out. Spica was bright right below the Moon, and Mars was farther away, to the right. Saturn was also visible, in the constellation Virgo.
We stayed out until about 4:45, so we saw quite a bit of the transformation. We got a few pictures, too! Pretty good for our first time in astronomical photography, if I must say so myself. Here are a few:
