APOD 1.8
This photo of the day on October 16, 2013 s titled "Three Galaxies in Draco." It shows the galaxies NGC 5981, NGC 5982, and NGC 5985 (the spiral), from left to right. This photo also reveals even more distant galaxies in the background. I found this photo interesting for several reasons. One, because Draco was one of our new constellations this week. I had found it in the sky earlier this week, and then was quizzed on its star chart today. Now, seeing it from this new perspective is really fascinating, I didn't know before that there were this mamy galaxies within it. We've also been studying telescopes and how they work, so I was keen to find any astronomy photos with a lot of magnification to try to further understand the images that astronomers can get from telescopes.
